Marraskuun 8. päivänä 2016 osallistuin Miamissa demokraattien vaalivalvojaisiin ja pääsin seuraamaan Yhdysvaltain 58. presidentinvaalien jännitysnäytelmää. Tai ei illasta jännitysnäytelmää pitänyt tulla vaan monien muiden tavoin ennakoin Hillary Clintonin voittavan Donald Trumpin selvin luvuin. nonPeerReviewed

Gaia-ESO Survey: Global properties of clusters Trumpler 14 and 16 in the Carina nebula
2017
Aims: We present the first extensive spectroscopic study of the global population in star clusters Trumpler 16, Trumpler 14, and Collinder 232 in the Carina nebula, using data from the Gaia-ESO Survey, down to solar-mass stars. Methods: In addition to the standard homogeneous survey data reduction, a special processing was applied here because of the bright nebulosity surrounding Carina stars. Results: We find about 400 good candidate members ranging from OB types down to slightly subsolar masses. About 100 heavily reddened early-type Carina members found here were previously unrecognized or poorly classified, including two candidate O stars and several candidate Herbig Ae/Be stars. Their l…
Ai ricci importa la salute pubblica? La teoria dei diritti di Dworkin, i beni pubblici e le sfide della pandemia
2023
In this paper, after offering a short vindication of public health as public good that liberal government should guarantee, I will show why Ronald Dworkin’s theory of justice in health care does not offer guidance in two cases that arise in pandemics: 1) how to set priorities in rationing access to intense care unit, 2) how to choose between vaccination policies. This lack of guidance is due to an unrealistic assumption that follows from Dworkin’s idea of the unity of value: that it is always possible to strike a balance between individual rights and collective claims in maintaining a public good (in this case public health).
